How to Promote International Level of Schooling If I were Head Master
Everyone wants to be better. The whole world strives to better. Therefore, Indonesia doesn’t want to be follower. Indonesia also wants to be a leader in the world. Then, how to make Indonesia be a leader?
One way to be a leader is the development
in the quality of education. So, the young generation will improve and can give
active contribution. The teacher’s competence is one of the factors that very
important in this strive. To develop teacher’s competence can be done by the
optimal role of the headmaster as educator, manager, administrator, supervisor,
leader, work climate maker, and entrepreneur.
But, we can see the trouble that often
seen in education department is the weakness of the headmaster. This weakness
can be happen because low skill and low of the education leader knowledge. In
this globalization mode, it’s very easy to find the school that offer programs
with overseas curriculum. And finally, the headmaster must be able to fulfill
request and hope from the society. All of the challenges make the role and the
function of headmaster become very important for the development of that
education department.
How to Promote International of Schooling by develop
the role of headmaster
To promote international of schooling
can be done by any element of education. The headmaster as a person who has the
highest responsibility about teaching learning process in the school must
understand what the school goal and how to achieve it. The headmaster can
encourage the teacher so the teacher has high competition in compete to be
international schooling. The headmaster also have to encourage the student to
study hard so the student have proper (high) quality to said international
level student.
The role of the headmaster can be
description such that:
1. Headmaster as an
educator
Teaching learning process is the main of
education process and the teacher as a major curriculum developer in the
school. Headmaster that have high commitment and focus in the development of
curriculum and teaching learning process surely will be give high attention in
the teachers’ competence and also will try to facilitate and encourage the
teacher to develop their competence.
If I become the headmaster, I will actively encourage
the teacher to follow in teacher training that can improve the competence of
the teacher. I also try to actively joint in giving education to the student.
2.
Headmaster as manager
As a manger, the manager has to have
competence and major ability in managerial such as ability in making a plan,
ability in organize the source (the teacher and the student), and ability in
doing activity.
The headmaster has to have ability in making a
plan, whether short term, midterm or long term plan. The principle of a good
planning is to aim at question: What will do?; Who will do?; When it will do?;
Where it can be done?; and How to do that? This detail will be the key of
headmaster success. But, the headmaster
also has to have ability in doing activity in what he planned before. It will
be useless if there is a good planning but not good in implementation
If I become a headmaster, I will try to manage
all of my mission to get my vision.

Headmaster as administrator
Especially in manage financial, to develop
teacher competence, it will not release from cost. If I become the headmaster,
I will allocate enough budget for developing teacher competence and also for
developing student quality (maybe to join in a competition).
4.
Headmaster as supervisor
If I become a headmaster, to know how far the
teacher ability in doing teaching process, I will check/come to class to see
teaching learning process, especially in the method and the media that used by
the teacher and also the student activity in learning process. From the
supervision, I will know the weakness and strong point of the teacher in
teaching learning process. I can also find the solution to fix the weakness and
improve the strong point.
5.
Headmaster as a leader
Leadership that had by the headmaster is an
activity of the headmaster to influence the teacher, the staff, the student and
the society to support the school programs. The ability to influence people the
other people is supported by the strong point of the headmaster itself, whether
in personality or the wide knowledge of the person who influenced.
The leadership of the headmaster has to
motivate:
a) The teacher
To arrange the
programs, doing the programs, doing an evaluation, doing analysis in the
learning result and doing remedy with full of responsibility.
b) The staff
To doing well
administrative, caring the facilitate (building and other gods) with
responsibility
c) The student
To study
regularly with full conscience and have future oriented
d) The parents and
the society
To be able
actively participated in the development of the school.
Leadership can be done well, if the headmaster
has a good relationship with the other. If I become a headmaster, I will:
a) Give a good
example (whether in personality or professionalism) so can inspiring people
around me
b) Understanding the
society culture
c) Have good
mentally
d) Have a tolerance
in mistakes
e) Not make a
personal conflict
f) Lead by positive
approach.
6.
Headmaster as work climate maker
The culture and conducive work climate will
make the teacher be motivated to show their work properly. Therefore, to make
conducive work climate, I will considering about:
a) The teacher will
work better if the situation is fun
b) Declare the aim
clearly, so the part of the department know it
c) Gift is better
than punishment
7.
Headmaster as entrepreneur
The
headmaster that has strong entrepreneurship will be brave to make an innovation
in her school, include the thing that related with teaching learning process and
the development of the teacher. As a headmaster that have entrepreneurship
base, I will try to find, what innovation that can make my school deserve to be
international school.
